Over the past couple of months, we have been busy attending meetings pertaining to the Compass acquisition of Alain Pinel Realtors. Compass is a privately held American real estate technology company that was founded in 2012, is headquartered in New York City and has a market cap of approximately $4.4B. With the acquisition of Alain Pinel Realtors, Compass will have approximately 10,000 real estate agents under its flag nationwide.
For the most part, the residential real estate marketing process has largely relied upon personal relationships, referrals, networking and the use of traditional marketing collateral, i.e. brochures, print ads and postcards. Compass is fundamentally a tech company operating in the real estate space, whereby, the goal is to take the complexity out of the real estate process and simplify it through the development of tools and support to assist both real estate agents and their clients through collaboration.

At this time, Compass has approximately 200 programmers working to develop industry leading tools.
